This document details the scientific, technical, and privacy-preserving foundations of the VeraTongue™ Sovereign Tongue Analysis application. Our core philosophy is simple: Your biometric data belongs to you. Zero PII (Personally Identifiable Information) is sent to any server.

1. The Sovereign Architecture (Zero-Cloud)

Unlike traditional AI health applications that transmit your sensitive health imagery to centralized cloud servers for processing, VeraTongue operates entirely on the Edge (your device). Using local NPU (Neural Processing Unit) simulation and optimized WebAssembly/Canvas processing, the entire diagnostic pipeline occurs within the secure sandbox of your browser.

No Network Transmission: The camera feed is read directly into an HTML5 Canvas. Once the pixels are analyzed, they are immediately flushed from memory.
Deterministic Seeding: We use pixel-intensity-based seeding from the image itself to ensure that the same biological signature produces consistent, reproducible results, completely independent of external LLM APIs.

2. Diagnostic Methodology: The Maciocia Topology

The system is built upon the foundational work of Giovanni Maciocia's Tongue Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine. We employ a spatial analysis engine that divides the tongue into specific topographical zones corresponding to internal organ systems:

Heart (心): Evaluated at the extreme tip.
Lung (肺): Evaluated in the area immediately behind the tip.
Liver & Gallbladder (肝/胆): Evaluated along the left and right edges.
Spleen & Stomach (脾胃): Evaluated in the central region.
Kidneys (肾): Evaluated at the root (base) of the tongue.

Each zone is analyzed using HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value) heuristics to determine the Body Color, Coating Ratio, and the presence of Red Spots/Stasis.

3. The 7-Gate Image Quality System

To ensure high-fidelity analysis and prevent "garbage in, garbage out" (e.g., scanning a hand or a poorly lit object), we have implemented a rigorous 7-Gate validation system:

Gate 1 (Biometric Detection): Measures vascular red/pink ratios to differentiate highly-vascularized tongue tissue from ordinary skin or inanimate objects.
Gate 2 (Extension): Verifies spatial alignment within the topographical guide to ensure root visibility.
Gate 3 (Lighting): Enforces strict brightness thresholds (45-220 luminance) to prevent under/over-exposure.
Gate 4 (White Balance): Checks the Blue/Red channel ratio to ensure natural daylight illumination.
Gate 5 (Resolution): Requires a minimum capture resolution of 640×480.
Gate 6 (Motion Blur): Utilizes Laplacian variance calculations to reject blurry images.
Gate 7 (Obstruction): (In development) Prevents finger/lip occlusion in the scanning area.

4. Clinical Limitations & Disclaimer

While the VeraTongue system uses sophisticated optical algorithms and classical Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) heuristics, it is strictly a wellness discovery tool, not a medical device.

Environmental Variance: Different phone cameras process color science differently (e.g., Samsung vs. Apple). While we attempt to normalize color temperature (Gate 4), absolute color accuracy cannot be guaranteed across all hardware.
Not a Diagnosis: The archetypes (Earth, Fire, Water, Metal, Wood) and organ-level patterns (e.g., Damp-Heat, Qi Deficiency) are metaphors for constitutional wellness. They do not constitute Western medical diagnoses (ICD-10/11).
